Microsoft lost many of my PATH entries during a "repair", I have some old backups, but don't want to restore the full registry, just poke into them to get a copy of this one registry entry. Any easy way to do that?

doing a backup by export converts all hives to .reg ascii entries, adn the size of the registry backup is thus much bigger (my 64MB registry went to 218 MB).

Backup by restore points are useable only if one does a full rollback to that point. Is there any way to backup as hives, and save those files?
